Vintage red and blue kitchen decor.
With an eye towards summer, I redecorated my shelf in the kitchen. I wanted to use my more vintage items as we are taking the kitchen back to a more retro look.
My Little Chef oven was perfect for the shelf. The old sifter was in this house when we bought it.
Happy and cheery. I love the new look and will add some flags or something patriotic for the summer holidays.
The cherries were a gift from one of my daughter's for Mother's Day. I adore them.
Gathered some polka dots for the new look.
We are trying to decide on a new paint color. Do you know this kitchen was originally aqua?
These are some of the inspirational photos I have gathered.
I love this kitchen from Kitchenisms. Of course my cabinets will remain white but I love the black and white curtains.
I love this little red cart. I wish I could find one.
Here are the curtains I have ordered. Country Curtains, hens and chicks. On sale for $9. I lucked out.
What a fresh and cheery kitchen! I love the look you are going for! Looking forward to the final reveal.
ReplyDeleteSo colorful..love it..the curtains are awesome...Love the little oven and sifter is a keeper too. We do the same thing when we are going to paint...up on the wall go the swatches...great minds....think alike.

ReplyDeleteYou did a great job! Very pretty and colorful!
ReplyDeleteI just sold an old cart just like that, but it was a mustard yellow!:-( It could have been painted. Check Goodwill and antique stores...I'm sure you can find one. It would be perfect for your decor!
I LOVE that sifter! And I so love the aqua with red! That is my vote! For what it's worth.

I like what you did on the shelf. I have seen many a sifter, but not one like this. You wee lucky it was left with the house. As to the color in your kitchen, I would have to think on it a little more.

ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and will be stopping by often...
ReplyDeleteYour shelf looks so nice - I LOVE the little stove!
The kitchen you like looks like mine, now that I've redone it -- turquoise walls, black & white tile floor and red accents (including a red formica table). Love that turquoise & red!
vintage 1950s is my favourite style. My kitchen is full of it. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten how tiny Little Chef ovens were! Your photo puts it in perspective.
ReplyDeleteGOING FOR THE RED
“If forced to make choices,” she said,
“I’d go for the crimson and red.
I’d let go of green,
(Some think it’s obscene),
Embracing magenta instead.”

Have you looked at "Rainwashed" by Sherwin Williams? I love that soft aqua blue color. Do you go to House of Turquoise blog...she talks a lot about paint colors. Your shelf is darling and I love the jar.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is crazy cute! Have seen that sifter from time to time but always at a premium price - so jealous to see it displayed in your kitchen. We did ours in aqua recently and LOVE it. Can't wait to read more of your blog - just become your newest follower from Rednesday!
ReplyDeleteHi, hoped over from TTT. Love the cherries! I decorate my kitchen with cherries for the month of June. Getting excited already! I recently painted my island and fan hood turquoise then glazed it. I have alot of red and was a bit hesitant. Best decision I ever made. Love, love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome little 'gift' to have been left behind when you purchased that house. That sifter is just ohhhhhhhhhhh so amazing. I do love your kitchen. It always put's a smile on my face.

ReplyDeleteSo lovely reds. happy rednesday. Mine is late.
ReplyDeleteMine is here
I love turquoise. Nice choice! Your little cherries vignette is *cute* Red is my favorite color :D And red and turquoise together is one of the prettiest color combinations. But more importantly, the turquoise will match your super-cool atomic blast tiles ;P

I love the cart too.
ReplyDeleteeverything on the shelf is adorable! i love red and aqua together too! love your blog...am a new follower :)
ReplyDeleteIt will look so good when you are all done. The inspiration pictures are great. Our 1956 bungalow had some wild colours under the wallpaper too. They were fearless when it came to colour back then. We still have the original metal cabinets, but they need some major restoration.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE this kitchen! I love the aqua color with the red - that is going to be so fabulous! i have a friend who took out her aqua colored appliances from her "old" kitchen and put in shiny new appliances and I wanted her old appliances so badly, but my hubby was not going for it :) They would have looked amazing in your cute kitchen though! i am dying to remodel my kitchen but i don't think it will happen any time soon so i will just have to drool over yours :) I am a new follower sent over by Stacy and Not Just a Housewife - isn't she fun?
ReplyDeleteI love that shelf and the retro feel. And I am totally in love with the red and aqua. I think I would paint my whole house aqua if i thought I could get away with it.

ReplyDeleteOoo, I love the inspiration photos! You should totally go for those colors. Makes the entire kitchen very bright and cheery. I especially love how the red pops out at you too.
ReplyDeleteWhen we tore up or linoleum we found aqua floors under our washer and dryer. I remember laughing at the floors 14 years ago and now everything is aqua again. Your kitchen is going to be amazing. I love cherries too!
ReplyDeleteOh I love your vintage shelf and the red is lovely!! Hmm, aqua walls and an old sifter that hung around. Think your kitchen will be happy getting back to the good old days ;)

I just love red in a kitchen.
ReplyDeleteWhat an A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E little shelf. Great job putting the perfect little things together.
Ahah! The cherries at last! I just LOVE those! I thought that they were metal when I saw them in your header. They are truly the Cherries on the top! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your aqua idea. I find that more and more I am drawn to Tiffany blue. The ceiling of my grandmother's front porch was that color and it was always so nice on that porch.
