Every year our church puts on a huge event for the community called "Walk Through Bethlehem." It is a live interactive experience of the story of Christmas. When you line up you are given hot apple cider and reminded by the Roman Guards that you need to be counted in the census and to give forth your taxes.
Quinn was not sure about the camel but he was just a big teddy bear. Very calm and friendly.
When you are allowed through the gates you first come upon King Herod and have to listen to his political speech. Oh sorry modern day cynicism is creeping into this post.
The three wise men searching for the Real King.
As you walk through the streets of Bethlehem you are told there is no room at the inn. No where to stay for the night.
These folks found a warm tent to stay.
Lots of live animals which delight all the kids.
In the marketplace there are peddlers of all the wares of the time.
Finally you are ushered into the main room where the birth story is told. It is moving beyond words and I literally tear up and cry every year. It just puts you in a thoughtful and thankful place. A reminder of the gift that was given to man. The ultimate gift.
The angels sing and then invite everyone to join in and that is when I generally lose it. I am so glad we get to experience this every year. Our church uses literally hundreds of volunteers and man hours to build this and put it on every year.
Even sweeter was the tiny new baby that was used on this night. Those are his parents and he is less than a month old. It was so precious. This should be their Christmas card this year.
My daughter worked the event this year and was able to go through it with us. One of my favorite nights of the year. I am thankful my hubby stayed up late to attend with us and continue this tradition.
