Hi am here! We decided to go ahead and go up north this weekend. Our friend said things were stable and life was too short to sit home and wait. He said, "Life is precious, enjoy your family." They were heavy on our minds though. We had a wonderful weekend just hubby, myself and our littlest. Grandma and grandpa were there for one night so she was the queen of the castle.
Cutting back on decorating will be a must for my new life. So for Tweak It Tuesday at Cozy Little House this week I made some changes. Now that everyone is back in all our activities; school, dance, piano.....
I used to enjoy blogging in the mornings in the quiet but I will have to change things up as mornings are too chaotic now. I am just going to live this first very full week and see where some free time lies. I refuse to let blogging make me feel pressured as it is something I have always enjoyed. I never want to lose that.
Placed some end of summer color in the dry sink. I love it. Simple.
I removed the busy centerpiece I always had on the table. Placed a runner with napkin holder and salt and pepper and thrift store candlesticks. We eat here a lot and it needed to be simplified and less cluttered.
One day I tried something in the kitchen that I thought would make dinner set up easier and I asked my husband how he liked it and he said, "Whatever works for us." EXACTLY!! I told him that would be my new motto. Whatever works for us. If something isn't the most attractive but is helpful in keeping the house running better than that is what I am going for.
A simple pumpkin placed in the middle will be perfect for through November.
The house is in need of attention so I better get at it and then I will drop Q off for her first day of preschool. Have a great day!

I think you speak for us all when you say you want simplicity and good function! ~ Maureen
Good luck to your little one on her first day of preschool!
I like your attitude!
Positive, and putting family first :)
I'm off to work on my organization projects too :)
Enjoy this day.

Your priorities are correct. Have a great week.
blessings to you.
I was thinking about the same thing today...blogging is stressing me out! I am having issues with Photobucket, and images are disappearing from my blog. It took me over two hours to write a simple post. I might give it a rest a few days and see what happens.
I hope Q has a great first day!
Your change up is very nice - love your dry sink!

Love the dry sink. It is true the more you have the more you must dust and fuss with it.
Hi Elaine...Looks nice! I know what you mean about the house needing attention. This one does, too, so I'm going at it, also! Have a good Tuesday. Susan
I like your simple table decor, and that is good you went up north for some R&R.
I think we all go through stages of change and when life gets busy busy we seem to find that what we need is just what works for our families just like your husband said, we all live different lives and one decorating style would never suit everyone.I love the simplicity of the runner, and I think a pumpkin would just glow on that table.Have a wonderful week,
I'm trying to decorate a bit for fall today ... but I'm just NOT in the mood. I could've/should've waited, but I really want it to look like fall around here...I just am not in the mood to do it. It takes me twice as long when I'm in this mood. Erg. Sometimes decorating is stressful! LOL
I love the braided table runner! You have a beautiful style! Enjoy your week...it will take some time to get in the groove again!
Hope Q is having a great day at preschool. Simple works for me, too, I've recently gotten rid of a few of the "decorative" things I had. Your hubby was right, whatever works for us is what has to be. Mary
Elaine, you really are my Blog Mentor. You encourage me and give me the "boost" I need-always at the right time!Love your work and hope you find the right time to blog when it's not so busy. I totally can see the pumpkin in the center, Elegant and simple!
What a lovely post. Well said and a great reminder to all of us out there in bloggingland. I love the beehive on the table top! Thank you so much for linking up today.
Good for you with "less is more"! I think sometimes collections can be distracing from bigger pieces, like your gorgeous dry sink. I gave up on tablecloths with 3 kids, but always used a runner. I could wipe the table, but still have something nice down the middle :)
Oh, what a big day it must have been for you and little Miss Q! I hope things went well for your little one and that she adjusts and makes lots of sweet new friends.
Blessings, Elaine,
Carolynn
Simplicity in decorating...Perfect!

So true Elaine, blogging should be fun and not pressure. If it reaches that point then it's time for all of us to cut back. Right now I am loving every minute of it, but who knows what the future will bring. "Whatever works for us" is the perfect motto! I love the simplicity. Must admit that I have a hard time doing it. I know that the older I get the more I will have to cut back. Your tweaking is terrific! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
Hugs,
Jann
