A Question For You All

I have a favor to ask from you. I have been thinking about the blog and the direction I want to go with it. I love the fun stuff and the visits with the chickens and garden but I would love to know what you really like reading about from me the most. Not as if I am any expert, but I love to write on topics that I find helpful or that I am concerned about. I have noticed that I get large responses on my posts regarding frugality and money saving. Part of me wants to focus more on this for my own good as well. With more detailed topics and regular posts. Is this what folks are wanting to read about? Or are they looking for an escape?

I of course will keep the fun stuff but would love your input on what blog readers are looking for if you care to share. It really fascinates me as I know what I am interested in but your input is so valuable.

Thanks for all the well wishes. After a scalding bath and hot tea, I finally got to bed. I am feeling so much better today. Still coughing but feel my energy back which I really need around here.

Thanks so much for taking time to read and comment. You all are the best!!

  1. Hi Elaine, I like the mix your blog has. I also enjoy the frugal posts. Designate frugal post days? Whatever you decide I will be here. I realize I was not helpful. xo, Olive

  2. Any ideas on frugality are really appreciated these days...my daughter's getting married next year & I need to save, save, save! Thanks for having such a homey blog, it's very sweet :)

  3. I like the mix of topics so it's a surprise when I visit. Maybe you could do a regular Frugal Friday post? I love gardens, frugal tips, animals, books, etc. so like varied topics.

  4. I always enjoy your blog no matter what the topic is. I do love frugal tips though and you've had some great ones!

  5. A blog that always hits on the same topic quickly loses my interest. I like variety! Jean

  6. I like your blog just as it is, with a mixture. Of course with the economy as it is, I think all of us are looking for workable ideas to save anywhere we can. So if you want to focus more on that, I'll be reading it. I still love to see the chicks and Q, too!

  7. Hi Elaine-- I like your blog the way it is now.
But... I do enjoy a good frugal post, too.
Either way-- I think I'll be reading your posts, because Gosh! Darn it... I like you. =D

  8. you know me ... i love your blog. my most favorite part of all is the "frugal posts" whether with food, around the home, or cleaning ...whatever ... they really help me out. love them!! keep up the fun!! big hugs. (:

  9. Oh ... you know what?
I like reading about your backyard chickens too. :)

But I wanted to tell you. I like reading some of the blogs that talk about being frugal, cutting costs, etc...because we live all over the place in this great country; and I for one would like an honest opinion about the economy where my blog friends live--rather than listening to the liberal media.

  10. For me, I like to sort of have an escape when I read blogs and I like photos a lot. I have chickens so I always like to see others post on chickens and animals.

Sometimes I do want to learn things, though, so I appreciate longer posts with tutorials or advice every once in a while.

  11. Obviously, I love your blog for so many reasons....let me count the ways..1) you're "down to earth" and practical, 2) I love your recipes...again practical, tasty and not pricey to make or full of ingredients I've never heard of, 3) you're frugal and even though I am much older I still learn from you in that area and 4) the gardening in the city since I came from rural and I've gotten lots of great tips on landscaping and gardening on a city lot and 5) your decorating is darling and yet I can relate because you don't spend a fortune on it yet it is so homey and cozy and you just can't "buy" that atmosphere. I like the variety you have and the fact that you don't just slap up pictures from Pinterest or tell me to go read you over at some other blog or party.
I do miss your old banner though....it's really what attracted me in the first place. Your new one is fine but the old one was more YOU, I thought. But you're allowed to grow and change! LOL! I hope that helps. Oh, and the thrift store finds....love those!!!!

  13. First of all, I feel so bad that I missed your earlier post! Poor Q!!! And poor you and hubby too!! Noah came home from school today sick too!! That is the part about this time of year that I don't like. So much going around! I hope you all feel better soon!!
About your blog, I love it just the way it is!!

  16. I love things just the way they are right now, family, food, frugal tips, funny chickens, all fabulous. Keep doing what you are doing. I love visiting. xo

  17. Hi Elaine, Like most above, I love your blog! I love seeing your decorating and gardening; I don't have chickens and don't see myself getting any so those posts aren't high on my list. I get tired of those that only post what they are doing/wearing/eating and never vary it. I think frugal is good as well.

  18. I've been pondering this a while too...what do people want to read about. What do I myself want to read about. While I crochet, mine isn't always about that, I like the simple things and go onto to that for a while, I try to mix it up..you can't please everyone. It seems as though we all like your blog just the way it is. If this is working for you why change it?

  19. I like the mix you have now -- it's all good and the reason I come here every day.

  22. Like most of the other readers said, I like your blog the way it is with a mixture of things. Anything in the way of homemaking is game for me: decorating, cooking, saving money, gardening, organizing, and reading about your chickens. I also like when a blog gets personal once in awhile, such as things one might do in their spare time such as crafting, taking nature walks, going to thrift stores and flea markets...heck, I even like when current struggles are talked about, because it helps identify with the person behind the blog, if that makes sense.

Hope you and your family are on your way to wellness and good health!

It sounds like everyone likes your blog, just the way it is.

  24. When I saw the question, my first thought FRUGAL POSTS! I LOVED when you did that as a group..it was so good to get different perspectives...but i also love your recipes and decorating and just family fun.
How about you post whatever is relevant to you at the moment and I'd just bet it hits a chord with MANY of us!

  25. Post what makes you happy to post! If you are happy to post it, I will be happy to read it. Blog like no one is watching and you'll always be happy about what you pst and write. :)

  26. I love the variety of your blog. I enjoy the occasional post on frugality, but mostly I enjoy hearing about what you're doing or thinking on any given day. Love your blog!

  27. I can't help you out Elaine because I don't even know what my own blog is about. Seems like we all just like you no matter what you choose to talk about!~ Maureen

  28. Hi, I love to hear about others' lives all over the world and feel that my eyes are being opened more and more! I also like to get tips and learn how to make do and mend, I wouod say that the way you do it is great as I don't want to be always thinking about money problems! Please continue writing whatever is on your heart at that time. I think if you have to be continually thinking frugal tips it will colour your post and your life so that you won't be keeping your eyes open for other lighter things that we would all enjoy but just looking down...if that makes sense?! 29. I like to read about your everyday life. It gives an insight into what it might be like to live in Califonien. With a completely different climate than in Sweden, Sundsvall. The similarities and differences. It enriches. To live a rich life, but sparingly. Think about the environment. This I want to live by myself. To bake and cook mostly from scratch. Using fine seasonal ingredients I wish you a nice weekend! Hug Zinnia

  30. I like a mix of topics, but I agree that people are really worried about the economy, and rapidly increasing prices, so once in a while it is nice to see how others are coping with increasing costs and often, decreasing incomes.

  34. Elaine, there are so many blogs if we want an escape. But how many are there that we can truly learn something we need from. Therein lies your answer.

  37. I like how you mix it up - a bit of life, a bit of family, a bit of chickens and a bit of frugality. The mix is why I return to your blog day after day. Keep up the excellent work!

  38. YOU are the lady that had the best post about chickens that I have ever read...the one that was posted on My Favorite Thing and showed us how much personality they had. And then there's the Shelleys Place post and all the varieties of ones that that I have read since I found your blog. I like to stop in on the weekend and catch up on several and I love the mix. It's nice to see frugal tips but I like them posted by people that dress up like Trekkies after they fed the chickens ! :) You have a great blog ! :)

  39. I love the variety of your blog. I read every morning with my coffee. One subject loses my attention. But, even if you did switch to one subject I would still read your blog with my morning coffee. :-)

  42. Elaine, I enjoy all of your posts. But I must admit that I really appreciate your tips, and not just the ones on frugal living (those are great, and now that we have one in college and one in HS they are appreciated even more). I also like your housekeeping tips, too. They have been very helpful. I still use a few that I read about on your blog.

Follow your heart and do what you think's right for your blog. We'll still be here reading it!
