First, happy weekend. We have had a long week and I am glad the weekend is here. Hubby and I celebrated with a quick dinner out and a trip to Barnes & Noble. Nothing bought but a nice time perusing the aisles. You know I just have to pop in and say something totally unrelated to Sunny Simple Sunday. There should be rules. Rules that don't allow female married biographers to be embedded with married men for a year. Really? Were there no available male biographers? While Mrs. Petraeus was home keeping the family together all alone, no good was going on. Where are our brains people? If the general was so bright as they say, why did he, as a married man, allow a woman to embed herself with him for that period of time. Anyone could see no good was going to come of that. I will not apologize for being the defender of that wife. Just saying.

Amen, Elaine! I'm with you 100% on that! Folks just don't use common sense. The family needs to be protected at all costs and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you just don't do this. I agree....there should be rules, or don't do it at all!

I agree with you on that, for sure, but I think this whole thing 'stinks to high heaven.' As soon as I heard it, I wondered if there could possibly be a motive for wanting to keep Petraeus quiet. Hmm. CIA and the whole Libya fiasco. I hope the people of the United States insist that they get to the bottom of that whole terrible incident and stop blaming it on some guy making a YouTube video. I think we should all go rent the movie 'Clear and Present Danger' and watch it again.

You are right, both of them lacked common sense, the General and the writer. The timing of the exposing of this may be related to what and when the General knew about the attack on our consulate in Libya. Apparently he was going to testify in the hearings, and now he won't.
You are correct. There is no excuse for infidelity. Period. You want to be with someone else, divorce your wife first. As far as I'm concerned, that's non-negotiable.
Such a sad thing I think...for both families...she was married as well...with small children...to think of those poor families with all of this out where we can all see...we need to pray for them all...
Obviously neither were thinking about the loved ones in their lives.

When I heard the news, my heart went out to Mrs Petraeus. She is in my prayers as well as the husband and children of the mistress/biographer. Adultery is a totally selfish act. No good, no happiness can come for anyone involved. I read that the mistress' husband may have been the author of a letter posted to the Ethicist column in the New York Time magazine last summer. In it the writer explained how he knew his wife was having an affair with a prominent government official and asked what he should do. This all smells a bit if you know what I mean. General Petraeus was due to testify this week. The timing is quite suspicious. God Bless us all and the values that many of us bloggers uphold. Thanks for hosting my dear friend. What a tragic and stupid outcome. One point though . . . any HINT of the General being hesitant to work with a female biographer could and probably would have been blown sky-high as ilegal and "SEXIST". How frail we humans are . . .

"To have and to hold...forsaking all others..." needs to be on the hearts of married men and women every day. I am grateful to have been blessed with my Mark...He served 22 years in the Navy and kept his vows to me forsaking all others. My heart goes out to Mrs. Patraeus. God bless her and guide her in the coming days.
