First, happy weekend. We have had a long week and I am glad the weekend is here. Hubby and I celebrated with a quick dinner out and a trip to Barnes & Noble. Nothing bought but a nice time perusing the aisles. You know I just have to pop in and say something totally unrelated to Sunny Simple Sunday. There should be rules. Rules that don't allow female married biographers to be embedded with married men for a year. Really? Were there no available male biographers? While Mrs. Petraeus was home keeping the family together all alone, no good was going on. Where are our brains people? If the general was so bright as they say, why did he, as a married man, allow a woman to embed herself with him for that period of time. Anyone could see no good was going to come of that. I will not apologize for being the defender of that wife. Just saying.
Now for some blogs of note from last week. I just love blog headers don't you?

Amen, Elaine! I'm with you 100% on that! Folks just don't use common sense. The family needs to be protected at all costs and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you just don't do this. I agree....there should be rules, or don't do it at all!
Oh, and I linked up with you this week!
Have a great weekend! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts....even when it isn't the most popular thing to do! :)

I agree with you on that, for sure, but I think this whole thing 'stinks to high heaven.' As soon as I heard it, I wondered if there could possibly be a motive for wanting to keep Petraeus quiet. Hmm. CIA and the whole Libya fiasco. I hope the people of the United States insist that they get to the bottom of that whole terrible incident and stop blaming it on some guy making a YouTube video. I think we should all go rent the movie 'Clear and Present Danger' and watch it again.
Amen! Avoid the appearance of evil. Common sense.
You are right, both of them lacked common sense, the General and the writer. The timing of the exposing of this may be related to what and when the General knew about the attack on our consulate in Libya. Apparently he was going to testify in the hearings, and now he won't.
You are correct. There is no excuse for infidelity. Period. You want to be with someone else, divorce your wife first. As far as I'm concerned, that's non-negotiable.
Such a sad thing I think...for both families...she was married as well...with small children...to think of those poor families with all of this out where we can all see...we need to pray for them all...
Obviously neither were thinking about the loved ones in their lives.
Thanks for hosting and spotlighting the great features....Sarah
Hi Elaine,
Wow! Christmas links already! Can't wait to check them out!
Thanks for hosting.

it's a shame on many sides..and there is much sorrow involved, I am sure....but people are human...that's the trouble with us
If he truly had honor it wouldn't matter who was with him. But as we can see he had no honor lord knows what elese he is guilty of.

I am so with you. They both knew better. xo
When I heard the news, my heart went out to Mrs Petraeus. She is in my prayers as well as the husband and children of the mistress/biographer. Adultery is a totally selfish act. No good, no happiness can come for anyone involved. I read that the mistress' husband may have been the author of a letter posted to the Ethicist column in the New York Time magazine last summer. In it the writer explained how he knew his wife was having an affair with a prominent government official and asked what he should do. This all smells a bit if you know what I mean. General Petraeus was due to testify this week. The timing is quite suspicious. God Bless us all and the values that many of us bloggers uphold. Thanks for hosting my dear friend. I pray that happier days lie ahead for us all.
Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Amen Elaine. You just don't put yourself in a tempting situation like that; it's asking for trouble.
Elaine, what a surprise to see my header!! Thank you.
What a tragic and stupid outcome. One point though . . . any HINT of the General being hesitant to work with a female biographer could and probably would have been blown sky-high as ilegal and "SEXIST". How frail we humans are . . .
You are so kind to share my blog header - Andrea at The Cottage Market (with help from her son) created it and I'm really enjoying it for fall, my favorite season. Thanks for being who you are, Elaine, I admire you. Hugs ~ Mary
In all fairness to him, she was also a married woman of two kids. Sad all around.

Very sad indeed. I feel for everyone involved. People just need to think of the consequences. Thanks for the party. Great headers!
Hugs,
Jann
Yep, when things like this go on, their loved ones are NOT on their minds.
Thanks for hosting.
Good morning to you, Elaine. I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Hi Elaine! thank you for hosting and I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday!
Just had to stop and say "amen" to your exhortation. And yes I love headers too ~ I had actually sat for a moment and enjoyed Ms Redo's header when I first saw it. Now I'm going to get another cup of coffee and visit some links (:
It wasn't in the news in Belgium, but I read it on Yahoo.
I love going to Barnes & Nobles when we're traveling in the USA. Especially the children's books, so many!

A hardy Amen! Elaine, I am thankful for your courage to put this out there. When I first heard about the General on the car radio...I had to ask why the timing just a few days after elections. ???
"To have and to hold...forsaking all others..." needs to be on the hearts of married men and women every day. I am grateful to have been blessed with my Mark...He served 22 years in the Navy and kept his vows to me forsaking all others. My heart goes out to Mrs. Patraeus. God bless her and guide her in the coming days.

Elaine, men in general just like their egos continually stroked. And other parts of their body as well. It has taken a lot of men down. One is my ex. Doesn't matter their IQ, their education, or their morals. It goes right out the window.
Brenda
Good Monday morning to you.
It is shocking about the General, but just proves the Bible verse "take heed that ye stand, lest ye fall"
anyone is capable of any sin, especially put in compromising situations.
I only feel terrible for his wife
PS - I also think it was very dirty politics that this did not come to light until after election day.
Thanks for hosting Elaine. Something certainly smells rotten in Denmark. I didn't know he was testifying this week. Interesting. Reminds me of that TV show Scandal.

In so many ways, people seem to define their own morality and think it's OK. It's not OK with me.
I agree! When I heard the news I felt so bad for his wife. It's a horrible situation.
Thanks for hosting. I've visited your blog before but this is the first time I've linked up. I enjoy reading your blog and I'm now following you on GFC! Hope you'll stop by for a visit!
Hi there Elaine! I just linked up to your hop. I just love it. Would you add my hop to your linky party list? I would love to be a part of it. Thanks a bunch,Melissa
Loved your comments and agree wholeheartedly. Hate that last entry on your party - shameless self-promotion/contests have no place in linky parties. Shame shame!
